Welcome Log ⬡ 02

Welcome to The Library!

Welcome, everyone, to the Library! As you wander your way in, wake up at a desk, or descend an elevator, the library's ambiance is, well... the same as it always is. Comforting-but-not. Warm-but-cold. Empty-but-populated. And, as always, there are certain things going on that just might make settling in a little easier.

Information Desk

⬡ Maps

At the Information Desk, there will be a large stack of looseleaf graph paper and a surplus of pencils, to more easily enable anyone who wishes to draw their own map of the library. The pencils will only be able to write on blank paper given to characters by library activities, and not on any of the books.

⬡ Stationery

Next to the graph paper, there will be a stack of blank notebooks and a haphazard pile of pens. The pens will only be able to write in the notebooks, on characters' personal belongings, and on skin.

All three of these items are semi-limited; somehow characters will only be able to make one stack of items as tall as they are once they've been removed from the desk.

Notebooks and pens will be provided in assorted colors in shades of blue, purple, white (and grey) and teal.

The Cafe menu will also showcase more typical cafe fare, from teas and coffees, to standard hot chocolates, to pastries, donuts, and sandwiches.

The Search Bar will also bring up whatever else characters could possibly want.

As always, movies playing at any given time are randomized, but this month there is a higher chance of movies playing with themes of new beginnings.

Ocean Floor 4

⬡ Room 4575

Located in room 4575 on Ocean Floor 4 will be a large table with an inordinate amount of self-help books, revolving around themes of "New Year, New You" and "New Year’s Resolution Ideas And How To Achieve Each Of Them." Alongside the books will be a stack of worksheets, asking questions about characters' goals and "resolutions" - all appearing to be photocopied haphazardly from a different book entirely.

It would appear as though the intent was for there to be a somewhat therapeutic book club meeting, focused on improving oneself.

In practice, the room itself somehow has taken on a somewhat oppressive air, as though there's someone staring at you and judging your life choices, even if you're alone in the room.

Nope! Well, most of them are types of weapons I recognize from movies and stuff, like the guns, but that's it.

[ she shrugs! ]

I don't really carry weapons, anyway. All I have is my wires.

("Movies." "Guns." Cool. He'll assume that out of the things in the case in front of him, the things he doesn't recognize right away are probably the guns or something. IDK what's in this case.)

Wires?

(He tilts his head curiously to one side. He thinks about the displays he's seen so far and... hm.)

Does that mean you have them now?

Sure do. [ she hefts the tote bag a little! ] I was going to put them in the locker, but I figured it's probably safer to keep them with me, just in case. Never know when they could come in handy!

...Guess it would be easier if I just wore them, though, huh.

[ things that did not occur to her until just now: wires are useless when they are just kept in a bag. hm! ]

(Interesting.)

So you get to keep your things with you... lucky you!

(Implying some of his things were taken from him. Hah. He's going to approach the case though and run his hand on the panel, trying to see how this thing works. Does it slide? Come out? It looks like it slides. It feels like it slides. Hm.

Don't mind him. He's just going to keep talking casually,)

Kind of a weird fashion accessory, isn't it? I can't really imagine what wearing a bunch of wires would look like. Maybe something like a puppet?

(That would be so weird.)

[ odd. what does that mean, exactly? she watches him for a moment before giving the display cases a thoughtful glance. hm.

well, that'll sort itself out eventually! ]

I don't wear the wires themselves.

[ though the thought makes her snort. that would be weird, but there's probably a hero out there who does exactly that, and who is ochako to judge? no, she'll just dig the uraraka wrists out of her bag and slip them on to demonstrate. ]

See? The wires are kept inside until I need them.

My sword. (But there is no sword in this case. It is only long range weapons.) And my bow.

(Sure enough, there is a silver bow and a set of arrows in the case. Neatly labeled with a little card saying they were kindly donated by "Claude von Riegan." Which is a lie. He didn't donate anything.

But he looks up to see what Ochako is doing! The way she puts them on, he'd think she was putting on grappling hooks but they go right past her hands and on her wrists?)

That's... not what I expected. (When she said wires or when she started to put them on. Huh.) How do you use them? Care to demonstrate?

Maybe your bow is around here somewhere? [ without knowing his name, there's no way for her to know that one's his lmao. ] And there's another museum with swords and stuff like that.

[ a demonstration, huh... she frowns thoughtfully and glances around the gallery. how to do that... ]

I can try, but there isn't a lot to work with in here.

[ maybe there's a framed picture or graph or something she can remove from the wall? let's just say there is, and with one touch, she sends it floating down the gallery. once it's far enough away, she throws one arm forward, the wires whipping out of the wrist guard to wrap around the frame and pull it back toward her. ]

See? They're pretty easy to use. I should probably put his back, though...

(Alright, the wires might have been cool in a "wow, I wonder how that works" sort of way but he's more surprised by the floating picture. It's enough to make him completely forget what he was doing (see: trying to break into the case).)

Wait a second-- The picture was levitating?!

(Floating? He's going to stand back up and come over to get a better look,)

[ oh, so he's interested in her quirk? amused, ochako unwraps the wires from around the frame so they retract into the wrist guard, and just. lets it go so it continues to float in place. ]

Yeah. I haven't released my quirk yet, so it'll keep floating until I do. So you've never seen a floating quirk before?

[ odd! flying and moving small objects aren't uncommon quirks, she'd thought - but maybe they just aren't common wherever he's from. ]

(That's certainly a word choice? Let him check out this picture though! He's going to put his hands over and under it because he really wants to make sure there's no trickery involved.)

I've seen some levitation spells before... but this is different. You don't seem to be focusing and I didn't see any circles.

(Which is interesting! He would have expected a magic circle or incantation or something but all she did was touch it.)

All you did was touch it! And it stays like this forever?

What, you don't have quirks where you're from?

[ that's hard to imagine... still, the fascination makes her laugh a little! ]

Not forever - only until I release it. I just don't want to risk breaking it if I can't catch it in time, you know?

Everyone's got quirks. Me? I like planning feasts and imitating my professors.

(You should hear his Seteth impersonation. It's spot on. Anyway, he's clearly misunderstood something here but for now, he's more focused on this painting! He holds out his arms to catch it?)

Can you show me how it's done? Don't worry, I've got it.

That's not the kind of quirk I meant! [ funny, but no! ] But sure. Just don't drop it, okay?

[ don't get her in trouble on the first day! once she's sure claude will catch it, she presses her fingertips together. ]

Release!

[ finally returned to gravity, the frame drops! ]

You can count on me-- oops!

(And he catches it! See? Look, he was just playing around, he wasn't really going to drop it.)

So you touch it to make it levitate but don't need to do the same to release it...

It wouldn't be nearly as useful if I had to touch everything just to release it. We should probably go ahead and put that back, though.

You have a point there... But it’s still interesting.

[ ochako makes no attempt to help fix the picture. sorry, library, it’ll just have to be crooked now. ]

I just... activate my quirk and touch something?

[ shrug? but she does hold her hand out so claude can see her finger pads, if he wants! ]

I have to use all five fingers for it to work, and then whatever or whoever I use it on is free from gravity until I release it again. It’s pretty simple, honestly.

(It can stay crooked. It's fine. It adds some charm to the space, really?)

When you explain it, it sounds simple but really, it's amazing. I've never seen anything like it.

(Wow! He's so impressed! And he's learned something new too so he's in a good mood.)

Can you use it on anything? Like... people? It'd be pretty fun if you could!

It's really not that special... There are tons of stronger quirks out there.

[ it's kind of funny how fascinated he is by her quirk. not that she isn't proud of it, of course, but there really are far cooler quirks, in her opinion. zero gravity could never hold a candle to yaomomo's creation.

Anything within a certain weight limit. Why, do you want to try it out?

I mean, who wouldn't want to fly? Or well, float through the air? Especially a guy like me with no affinity for magic.

(He's no good at it at all!!)

Well, it isn't magic, and there really isn't enough control over my quirk on its own to call it flying, either. That's the other reason I have the wires - to help move around, you know?

(He's going to have to be careful with how he explains this. Hmm, it's still wild though. Give him some time to really reflect and figure things out. Maybe come back with more questions.)

Still, you have a power and you actually have some control over it. Compared to you, I'm just a real ordinary guy.

So? What's wrong with that? Being quirkless isn't that common where I'm from, but it doesn't mean you're less important than anyone else. It just means you'll have other strengths, right?

Now that you mention it...

(And that? Has Claude back at the case again! He undoes the pendant on his uniform and extends the pin behind it... and is definitely trying to pick a lock right now.)

I sure do! But it's currently... out of reach.

(Why... can't he pick this lock.)

...Somehow I don't think whoever runs this place would like you picking the locks.

[ there's not a lot of fight to that, though, because technically? they were kidnapped? and if that's really his bow, then it was stolen? it's totally fair to take your own stuff back if it was wrongfully taken from you, and all. ]

So you do archery, huh? That's pretty cool.
