Event 2 ⬡ The Master-Thief
Trick 1 - The Farmhouse![]() ⬡ Common Cast Characters most likely to originate in The Farmhouse are The Thief and The Tricked as The Thief's Parents. ⬡ Literary Description One day an old man and his wife were sitting in front of a miserable house resting a while from their work. // "Come into my garden with me for a while, I have still something to do there." He had dug some holes in the garden, and now wanted to plant some trees in them. ⬡ For Your Exploration The house belonging to the old man and his wife is small, but cozy. They clearly do not have much money, but have still made a home for themselves here. The garden is similarly small, but full of holes in rows for saplings to be planted. As there are multiple trees to be planted, they are likely fruit trees. The Kitchen is the heart of the home, small but warm, and the old man's wife is capable of easily and comfortably making a requested "poor man's meal" for the Thief on request. ⬡ The Trick The old man and his wife will not realize that the Thief is their long, lost, estranged child until they've been told - unable to recognize them for how much they've changed, and how they've made a fortune for themselves. Trick 2 - The Stables![]() ⬡ Common Cast Characters most likely to originate in The Stables are The Thief, The Lord, and The Tricked, in the form of the Lord's Stable Hands. ⬡ Literary Description One of the soldiers had seated himself on the saddled riding-horse, another held its bridle in his hand, a third had laid hold of its tail. ⬡ For Your Exploration The Lord's stables are as nice as one could expect - they're well-tended, and just as well guarded. The Lord's personal riding horse the most well-guarded of all, even if it kitted out to be ridden at a moment's notice. ⬡ The Trick The Thief will be tasked this time to steal the Lord's own horse out from under the stable hands' and guards' noses. The guards will know to be on the lookout for the Thief, so the Thief will have to use all their cunning to get in and out right in front of them. Trick 3 - The Bedchamber![]() ⬡ Common Cast Characters most likely to originate in The Bedchamber are The Thief, The Lord, and The Tricked, in the form of the Lord's Wife. ⬡ Literary Description When the countess went to bed that night, she closed her hand with the wedding-ring tightly together, and the count said, "All the doors are locked and bolted, I will keep awake and wait for the thief, but if he gets in by the window, I will shoot him." ⬡ For Your Exploration The room itself is a lush bedroom, fitting the Lord and Lady. It is located in the upper floors of his castle, and the doors and windows will be locked initially. Moonlight will be the only light in the room. ⬡ The Trick The Thief will be tasked this time to steal the Lord's own bedsheets from under himself and his wife while they sleep, and his wife's wedding ring off her finger at the same time. The Lord and Lady will attempt to stay awake through the night to foil the Thief's plans - though of cours they'll do their best to get in and out with their prizes safely all the same. Trick 4 - The Church![]() ⬡ Common Cast Characters most likely to originate in The Church are The Thief and The Tricked, in the form of The Pastor and The Clerk. ⬡ Literary Description When night had fallen he went with a long sack on his back, a bundle under his arms, and a lantern in his hand to the village-church. ⬡ For Your Exploration The Church itself is small - just large enough to serve the little village it is located in, and with living quarters for the Pastor and his Clerk. It is simply decorated, with not anything worth stealing to distract the Thief from his duty. Outside, it is clear that the church itself is situated some distance outside of the village - homes are in sight, but not nearby, and there is a winding path to and from. There is also a small cemetery surrounding the church - the churchyard - with headstones in varying states of disrepair. ⬡ The Trick The Thief will be tasked this time to steal the Pastor and his Clerk themselves whole, and bring them back to the castle without realizing anything is amiss by the next morning. They will be instructed to also do as little harm as possible to these individuals - so killing them and delivering their bodies is not an option. | ||||||||||||||
Ichiban Kasuga | Yakuza 7
Claude
Why not just arrest him?
Shang Qinghua
He tells the visiting thief on the doorstep to come visit him in his study upstairs and then disappears into the house. He all but teleports up to that study, even if you go in right after him... That means there is time to rummage around downstairs for any useful items that might be pilfered from his drawers. An extra potion here, 90 coin pieces there, and a scrap of flavor text: Dear Lord Ichiban...
Most of the upstairs doors are locked when you head up, only the study letting you enter at this time. Who reads all those books on the wall? Certainly not Ichiban, and it's impossible to read the blurry pixelated titles without smashing your face directly against them and getting the dialog prompt: Dragons & Dragoons. ]
Well, Master Thief. I have three objectives you must complete before I will allow you to pass on peacefully through my land. You can review your objectives in the menu.

The stable
The bed chamber
The church
what perfect music
and he absolutely takes the time to rummage around lord ichiban's place, collecting all the little scraps and items, because that's just what you do in these situations! you never know when that potion might come in handy. when he finally meanders up to the study, he strides in with totally undue swagger. ]
Three objectives, huh? [ shang qinghua scrolls through them, then raises an eyebrow at ichiban. ] The bedchamber, huh? Kind of an intimate location for a heist, don't you think?
ichi... loves dragon quest, it is the only music
[ Ichiban booms grandiosely. He's clearly having a ball playing as his conception of a noble lord. ]
It will be a challenge to escape me unnoticed, and unharmed.
[ Rather than a sword at his belt... he wields a hero's bat. Bro will mess you up. ]
omg that video!! i love him......
Haha, well, challenge accepted! [ not like he has a choice but hey! he does like a challenge. ] Soo...do I have to do these in this order, or can I tackle them non-linearly?
[ everyone knows that you want to face the final BOSS last! he'd rather not have to infiltrate ichiban's bedroom without leveling up a little first. ]
he is my favorite idiot son

The stable
Prerequisites: Finish your tutorial conversation with Lord Ichiban.
Did you get all that?
Yes
Not quite, can you repeat that?
[ Ichi stands frozen and grinning waiting to see if you need the instructions repeated. 🙃 ]
he's so good 😭
Got it, my lord. Any last words before I come back here tomorrow with your horse?
[ aka can he mine this conversation for any more useful info or is this pretty much it. if so, he'll just be going! better hope he levels up!! ]
no subject
Ask Lord Ichiban about himself.
Maybe some other time.
[ Selecting the former goes into a truly endless narrative about Lord Ichiban's life as the young master of Mostroferrato. All of it is clearly fantasy, as he doesn't mention going to jail or being shot even once. Be careful not to mash through it too much, you'll end up accidentally retriggering the dialog... Not a single piece of it provides a tip for completing the objectives either. ]
Listen to Lord Ichiban's story again?
Leave.
no subject
that means the next objective is tackling the main BOSS...weird that it's not the final task, but whatever... shang qinghua tries the dead body trick, propelling it up to the lord's window with a burst of spiritual energy, but...maybe a little too hard? the body rattles heavily at the window and almost starts to slip off entirely. ahh, fuck! he only brought the one body... he tries to boost it up with another burst of spiritual energy. hopefully ichiban will go postal on the corpse with that bat before he realizes the guy's already dead. ]
no subject
Ichiban appears in the window, just a shape in the dark. He mutters to himself, ]
Shit. Did I kill that guy?
[ Only then shouting down, ]
You okay there, buddy?
[ He might be breaking character a little bit. ]
V | DMC 5
Vidar
The scene appears to be a young man on a horse being chased by shadow creatures... Except the lot of them seem to having fun. V laughs as he guides the horse expertly through the hedges. ]
You'll have to do better than that, Griffon!
no subject
[ says the man who rides horseback a bit too much like a noble, huffing and puffing at the idea that he's part of this chase to begin with. vidar doesn't look like an ornery thief, either. his gloves are too fine for that.
so maybe someone is a poor actor. but there are uses for that in the scenario regardless. ]
no subject
Then there's the shapeshifter, currently in the form of a black panther. It leaps, using Vidar's back as a spring board to get ahead. Startling perhaps, but it's not as heavy as it looks-- not being quite real and all.
V just laughs, exhilarated. ]
What are you complaining for, Vidar?
[ The smirk he casts over his shoulder is roguish indeed. ]
Shang Qinghua - Thief
Appearances can be deceiving! Or, in this case, they can be a little less deceiving, because while Shang Qinghua may be a master thief, he definitely has a sort of shifty, seedy look about him that whispers thiiiefffff. But that doesn't make his skill any less significant, or his heart any less generous! Well, sure, he might keep some treasures for himself, but everyone likes a trophy, right, everyone likes to be able to show off their accomplishments, right?
Which is why he goes back home in the first place! Kind of! Wouldn't it be nice for his parents to know he's not a ne'er-do-well after all, or well, at least one who does well on occasion? He's just not going to tell them outright that it's him right away, that's all...
The Farmhouse
Shang Qinghua will poke around curiously, looking for artifacts of his childhood here, and ask the old couple some leading questions before caving and revealing his identity as soon as it seems like they won't toss him out on his ass for it.
The Stables
Shang Qinghua is not a master of poison, but it really isn't hard to serve someone drugged wine. The only problem is...the horse really, really hates him. Clearly he is not willing accept Shang Qinghua as a passenger, let alone a master.
The Bedchamber
Shang Qinghua will create some kind of diversion to throw the lord and his wife off. Maybe he'll do the whole dead body thing, maybe he'll just find a way to set fire to the kitchens? No one ever said it was a perfect plan.
The Church
This is absolutely a job for a guy with magic powers! A little dazzle and pop, and these guys totally think they're going to heaven and will follow Shang Qinghua to the pearly gates themselves. As long as no one figures out that it's all fake!
shen jiu
"So," Shang Qinghua says, squinting at his very bad map with totally unearned confidence, "I think the cellar's the best way in."
no subject
"Cellar makes sense, but which part's the cellar supposed to be? This blob or that one over there?" He asks, pointing at two entirely opposite ends of the castle and possibly also getting a tiny bit of ink on his finger.
no subject
The stables are...a scribbly rectangle. It's not a blob, that's the important thing here!
no subject
However he's acting doesn't prevent him from paying attention though, at least.
"Alright, so you do the treating while I get the door unlocked. The vault doesn't look too far from there."
Immediately abandoning Shang Qinghua to the guards, as one does.
no subject
"No, I'm gonna need backup on the drugged wine," he says, tapping the map, which he immediately smudges. Whoops. "We can both tackle the door once they're out. Besides, what if something happened to your big bro, huh? What would you do then?"
no subject
He doesn't look particularly put-off by the rejection, simply turning his attention back to the increasingly more smudgy map. "If something happened to you then I'd get all the treasure by myself, obviously." Lies, he'd try to save his bro--but nobody has to know that. "Anyway, you aren't actually gonna get into serious trouble, are you? We got this far without any."
no subject
"Why do you always think I'm going to get in trouble? I'm the mastermind behind all this, you know! Do you know how complicated heist logistics can get?"
no subject
"Just because you're good at planning doesn't mean you're good at acting out the plan." He sighs in a noticeably overdramatic fashion. "Besides, you're the one who said something'd happen to you, I just said I'd leave if it did."
shen qingqiu
He's ushered in to see the lord with all due ceremony, and Shang Qinghua pays his respects with a bow, and while he seems like an upstanding gentleman, and much older than the last time they met, there's still that air of shiftiness around him...
"My lord," he says with a smile that somehow looks simultaneously ingratiating and smugly clever. "Thank you for granting me an audience."
vidar / thief
[ he's your guest. a thief in the night that you may or may not recognize, he billed himself as a long-lost friend and you'd agreed. late in the night, amongst a game of cards, vidar poses the question: ]
I think we should raise the stakes. [ he gestures to his glass. ] Have you anything stronger? For playing an awful game of two truths and a lie.
THE BEDCHAMBERS | SIEGE
[ the castle's under attack. he hears a soldier yell to everyone else to take cover in their own rooms, they might lose the war by nightfall. reinforcements are a fool's hope at this rate. is the bedroom the best place for a hideout? vidar's doubtful, but he's not going to the dungeons either.
in any case, as he overhears the thundering of war right outside of the castle, vidar quietly slips past the guards in a servant's garb as he casually heads to the kitchen, and back out to the halls. ]
Shame for all this to be left behind.
THE CHURCH
[ it's nice and quiet and vidar is on the other side of the screen in a confessional, as the priest. ]
Tell me your sins, child.
[ where is the priest? who knows. (he's being used as a footstool, unconscious, as vidar leafs through the bible because he's never actually read it at all.) ]
